must be received by May 18, 2012 (PLEASE NOTE: Deadline has been extended).
The
Chalk It Up Contest 2012 (known in this document as CIUC) is part of the 2012 Plein Air Competition and Festival in Canandaigua, NY. The Downtown Canandaigua sidewalks will be transformed, as the day progresses, into colorful creations by participating artists.
Artists (individuals or teams) will create temporary works of art on the designated sidewalks in Downtown Canandaigua using chalk pastels (basic colors provided).
Note: This event will occur rain or shine.
Cash prizes in several divisions will be awarded by the judges:
9-16 years old:
1st Place: $100, 2nd Place : $50, 3rd Place: $25
17 years and older:
1st Place: $200, 2nd Place: $100, 3rd Place: $50
Middle School Team (grades 6-8):
Grand Prize: A pizza and bowling party for the winning team sponsored by Roseland Bowl. Gift Certificates for art supplies will be awarded to participating schools.
Entry Information
The contest is open to age 9 and older - Enter in one of the following divisions:
(Enter as an individual or a team - up to 4 members in the same division level, except for Middle School Teams which may include 4-8 students grades 6-8)
$10 Entry Fee for ages 9 – 16 years old
$10 Entry Fee for ages 17 and older
$10 Entry Fee for a Middle School Team
• representing their school (Teams of 4-8 students in grades 6-8)
• There can be multiple teams from the same Ontario County school.
• In this division artwork must relate to the theme:
“Finger Lakes Activities”

Contest Guidelines
Chalk It Up is a family friendly event. To this end the CIUC Committee reserves the right to deem any submitted subject matter as inappropriate. Noncompliance with the rules will result in the immediate removal from the CIUC.
No political, religious, commercial advertisements or statements written, visual, or implied are permitted. Use of registered, copy written, trademarked or licensed characters is prohibited.
Submit creative, original ideas in the
Plan Drawing Image:
· Image should be in JPEG (.jpg) format and sized to 1000 pixels at it's largest dimension (height or width). File size should not exceed 1MG.
· Identify Jpeg as follows: Your Last Name, then First Name, followed by the word "Chalkitup"
Chalk Pastels are the only approved medium
Only chalk pastels in a solid form may be used to color your sidewalk painting…. NO PAINT! However, if you want your artwork to have a solid background color (white) you may request this when submitting your plan when you enter. The sidewalk area you are assigned will be painted with white tempera paint. The CIUC wants to remain eco-friendly and therefore permits no oil pastels, gesso, acrylic or oil paints, liquid pastels or diluted latex of any kind. A basic set of colored chalk will be provided to you. You may supplement this set with your own chalks.
